3:16 by Max Lucado

26 September, 2007 (21:24) | Ben Ki Batein | No comments

3:16I love to read, infact sometimes it fries my brains but I love to read - what can you do? Last week I had some time to kill and so sauntered over to the R G Mitchells bookstore. The store was very literally plastered with the lastest book by Max Lucado. If you anything about Max Lucado you would know that he has a way with words. I was introduced to his work through my children, there are many children’s books that he hads authored over the years.
Well I bought 3:16 and I have to say that it is very well written and worthy of the message that John 3:16 conveys. I am on Chapter Seven right now and I could not resist inviting you to buy this book. Listen to this:

Life at times appears to fall to pieces, sometimes irreparable. But it’s going to be okay. How can you know? Because God so loved the world. And,
Since he has no needs, you cannot tire him.
Since he is without age, you cannot lose him.
Since he has no sin, you cannot corrupt him.

Talking about the hard heart of this world and the love of God that continues to penetrate through he has this to say:

Are you a leader??

26 September, 2007 (12:10) | Ben Ki Batein | No comments

This is a contribution from my friend Rev Kuruvilla Chandy - you can read more from him on his blog

Are you the leader or head of the ministry you are involved in? Right away, it must be said that there is something wrong in your way of thinking. Our Lord said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all” (Mark 9:35). First give up the notion that you are the head. Get it into your head that you are the “servant of all .”

Middle class families in India employ servants to do what are described as “menial jobs” (washing dirty cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, sweeping and swobbing floors, washing clothes, cleaning toilets, watering plants, etc). The Lord Jesus must have had these sort of images because He lived in this part of the world. But when we read the words of our Lord, our minds shy away from these images and to make it doubly sure that such images are driven from our minds, we have coined the word ” servanthood.” This word does not exist in the vocabulary of the English language and cannot be found in any dictionary. Christians made it up. It’s a neat theological trick to drain the Lord’s original idea of all its unpleasant connotations .

Connexting in New York

20 September, 2007 (22:27) | Ben Ki Batein | No comments

On Sept 13th, I drove down to Buffalo and took a flight to New York. I was going to attend the ‘Connext Online Conference’. I reached there around 10:30 PM and met Sam George, the writer of ‘Understanding the Coconut Generation’ I was then politely asked if I would mind helping out with leading the morning worship. The person who had to lead it fell ill and could not make it, so I then spent the next few hours getting the overheads ready for the morning worship. I actually like to be in the front so it wasn’t really a big deal although it was tiring.

No evidence to prove existence of Ram, Centre to SC

13 September, 2007 (10:42) | Ben Ki Batein | 1 comment

I saw this interesting item in the Rediff.com news update that I get everyday. Well, we have been taught that the ‘Ramayana’ is a myth. It is always mentioned ‘Hindu Mythology’. Mythology is something that is made up - just like Greek Mythology. So now the Archeological Survey of India has finally placed it on record to say that ‘Ram’ did not exist.

The Quest for Authentic Manhood

12 September, 2007 (22:13) | Events | No comments

The Quest for Authentic ManhoodStarting this Saturday, September 15th, there is going to be a weekly ‘Men’s Breakfast Fellowship’ at ‘Morningstar Christian Fellowship’. This is an exciting event and a great spiritual resource for men.
Someone has said that most of the men go through their lives without having another man to truly, deeply & spiritually connect with. This is a deficiency that leads to confusion, the establishing wrong criteria and goals for their success in their lives.
I would highly recommend joining this 21 week study. In addition to studying the Word, you will also have the chance to connect with another man and talk through challenges, get a different perspective. Particularly in the context of being an immigrant, chances are you have no one to talk to because you have left all your close friends behind.
You have to invest $10 in the book and the studies are structured in such a way that even if you miss a couple of weeks you are not lost when you get back in.
I know this is an Investment of time but it is truly worth it and I would encourage you to do it if you can. I will be there as well, if that helps at all. Here are some more details about this great Fellowship.
