Happy Independence Day - India & Pakistan
With all honesty I can tell you this, I would never have said Happy Independence Day to Pakistan had I been in India.
God has since given me the pleasure and wonderful experience of meeting people from Pakistan and helping me realise that we have brothers and sisters there as well. Coming to Toronto has been such a blessing from that point of view, I now have some very good friends from Pakistan, some excellent Christians and you know what - they are no different from me an Indian.
My first landlord in Toronto was from Pakistan - a Mr Siddiqui, a muslim man. We stayed in his basement apartment for four and a half years, he treated us like his family, encouraged me in my studies and we felt very safe and secure in that house. People used to say ‘Why are you still living in a basement apartment?’ and we did not see what the problem was. Eventually when the Lord enabled us to buy a house we moved out. I remember weeping on my landlord’s shoulder as I told him the news that I was moving out. I cherish experiences like this, they are ‘Bhai Sahab’ & ‘Bhabhi’ to me and we still meet and keep in touch with them
The partition was painful, for a lot of people and for our nation - but now here we are 60 years later and what have we learnt? Here is a video of someone’s experience that I found on the BBC website.
Hope you guys had a great day and remember The greatest freedom is the freedom from sin and the gift of everlasting life. Jesus is the only one who can provide me & you that true freedom.
