Rabies shots #1
Today we went into MHI (Missionary Health Institute) and got the first of our two rabies vaccinations for our travel. We started the process of immunisation in the middle of May and I believe our last shot is currently scheduled for July 9th.
I personally gave two hoots to the whole immunisation thing until I caught dengue fever during my last visit to India in 2005. Boy Oh Boy was that ever an unpleasant experience. The rashes on my body and high fever lasted the first couple of days - one of which was spent on the 14 hour direct flight to Toronto, it then took me a couple of months to get over the after effects. Since then ‘I am believer’.
Interestingly enough, we met a pastor and his family from Coldwater, Ontario who are leaving for Malawi in August on a three year missions trip. They were there for their vaccinations as well. They have a son who is in grade nine and another younger son going with them. It felt good to know that we aren;t the only ones dragging our sons alongwith us. Sometimes - only sometimes, I think only Wednesday evenings do we feel a tinge of worry about our children.

Yes, the “dragging the children” along gets quite difficult.
You might be interested in EMla cream, numbs you up before the injection so you dont feel a thing. There is vaccination information at www.ihateneedles.co.uk
happy travels

Thanks for the comments. Its dragging the children along to India that worries us from time to time - like I said only on Wednesdays
